Samsung continues to refine QD-OLED, Sony still delivers some of the industry’s best picture processing, and premium Mini-LED TVs from TCL and Hisense have become legitimate alternatives.

Even so, LG remains the benchmark for OLED, as it has led the global OLED TV market for 13 consecutive years, thanks to years of panel innovation and consistently strong real-world performance.

I spent several weeks testing the 65-inch LG C6 OLED deliberately choosing everyday use, from streaming Dolby Vision movies and live sports to high-bitrate 4K Blu-ray remux files and next-generation gaming.

The result?

This isn’t a revolutionary upgrade over last year’s C5, but it doesn’t need to be. Instead, LG focused on refining the areas that matter most: image processing, gaming performance, AI-powered personalization and overall picture quality.

Whether those improvements are enough to justify buying the C6, or upgrading from the C5, is exactly what this review answers.

Setting up

Setting up the LG C6 is exactly what a premium TV experience should feel like. From the moment it comes out of the box, everything is designed to get you watching quickly rather than wrestling with complicated assembly. The center stand installs in just a few minutes, and LG’s webOS setup wizard guides you through Wi-Fi, streaming services and software updates without unnecessary complexity.

<iframe title="LG C6 supply and installation. uncover my review now. OLED panels aren’t especially heavy, but they’re delicate enough that careful handling is worthwhile.

One small but interesting design detail that is easy to miss is the rear panel finish. Instead of using a completely plain plastic surface, LG has given the back of the C6 a subtle marble-like appearance that makes the television feel more premium even in areas that are usually hidden from view. It is not something most users will notice after installation, especially when the TV is mounted on a wall, but it reflects LG’s attention to the overall design rather than focusing only on the visible front panel.

Marble-like back finish

For buyers planning a wall-mounted installation, like I did, the C6 uses a standard 300 × 200 VESA pattern, making it compatible with virtually every major TV mount sold in the U.S.

On wall installation

One small detail hasn’t changed from previous generations: the power cord remains permanently attached. It’s a minor inconvenience, but if you’re routing cables through the wall you’ll want to verify that your conduit is wide enough for the attached plug before installation. It might be considered as a small criticism, but for in-wall cable storage, it can be a challenge for some.

power cord remains permanently attached

Extended warranty

OLED panel is one of the few where I’d genuinely consider purchasing an extended protection plan. Modern OLED panels are significantly more resistant to burn-in than they were several years ago. LG has invested heavily in automatic pixel refresh cycles, pixel shifting, logo detection and brightness management to reduce long-term image retention.

Even so, burn-in hasn’t disappeared entirely. If you regularly watch cable news channels with static logos, sports networks displaying persistent scoreboards, or leave the same content on screen for hours every day, the risk still exists over the lifetime of the display, while much lower than before.

That’s why I think an extended protection plan deserves serious consideration, particularly if the coverage explicitly includes burn-in. Retailers such as Best Buy, Costco and Amazon offer different protection options, and coverage varies considerably between providers, so it’s worth reading the fine print before purchasing. Although for many buyers, it may never be necessary, for heavy TV users, however, it can provide valuable peace of mind during the years when permanent image retention is most likely to appear.

What’s New in the LG C6 OLED?

The LG C6 OLED is not a complete redesign, and that is exactly the point. LG isn’t trying to reinvent its most popular OLED lineup. Instead, it focused on improving the areas where premium TVs are increasingly competing: image processing, gaming performance, AI features and smart TV capabilities.

On paper, the core specifications look familiar: 4K OLED panel with 120Hz native refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 ports, supporting Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. The audio specs includes 40-watt 2.2-channel speaker system, Dolby Atmos support, and the interface is webOS 26 smart TV platform.

But the biggest upgrade is hidden behind the screen: the new Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 3. This processor handles nearly every aspect of the viewing experience, including noise reduction, image upscaling, motion processing, color accuracy and AI-based picture optimization. After living with the TV for several weeks, this was also the improvement I noticed most consistently in everyday use. It wasn’t one dramatic feature that stood out immediately, but rather the way the processor quietly improved almost everything I watched.

LG C6 OLED vs LG C5 OLED: What Changed?

For existing LG C5 owners wondering whether the upgrade is worthwhile, the answer is more complicated than simply looking at the specification sheet.

The major differences include:

Processor Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 2 vs. Gen 3

Maximum VRR refresh rate 144Hz vs. 165Hz

Smart platform webOS 25 vs. 26

AI Previous vs. Expanded AI personalization

Gaming support Excellent Improved

The panel technology itself remains based on LG’s proven WRGB OLED architecture, where each pixel produces its own light. This allows the display to achieve perfect black levels, exceptional contrast and the viewing angles that OLED is known for.

The 65-inch model reviewed here uses LG’s Brightness Booster technology, while larger 77-inch and 83-inch versions receive the more advanced Brightness Booster Pro implementation.

Gaming Performance

Gaming remains one of the strongest reasons to consider the LG C6 OLED. All four HDMI 2.1 ports support:

4K at 120Hz

Frecuencia de actualización variable (VRR)

Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)

NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility

AMD FreeSync Premium

During testing, I connected both a gaming PC and current-generation consoles, and the C6 never felt like it was holding the hardware back. Whether I was playing at 4K with VRR enabled or switching between different refresh rates, everything behaved exactly as expected. The jump from 144Hz to 165Hz VRR support may not matter to most console gamers, but PC gamers with powerful GPUs may appreciate the additional headroom.

Compared with other TV manufacturers, LG continues to have a major advantage by offering four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports. Sony’s premium OLED models, for example, have traditionally offered fewer HDMI 2.1 connections.

However, LG once again does not support HDR10+, the dynamic HDR format promoted by Samsung and used by some streaming services and content providers. For most viewers, this will not be a major limitation, since Dolby Vision remains the dominant premium HDR format across major streaming platforms, including Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV and others.

Conectividad

One thing I appreciated is that LG didn’t try to fix something that wasn’t broken. The connectivity is almost identical to last year’s model, and honestly, I think that was the right decision. The C6 includes:

4 × HDMI 2.1 ports

eARC (HDMI 2)

Wi-Fi 6

Bluetooth 5.3

Ethernet connection

Salida de audio óptica

2 × USB ports, compared with the previous generation is the reduction from three USB ports to two.

Most users will never notice, but anyone connecting multiple devices, such as a USB drive for media playback, external storage and accessories, may eventually need a USB hub.

The inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 helps keep the TV ready for modern streaming devices, wireless headphones and smart home accessories.

LG C6 connectivity

webOS 26: A Familiar Experience With Smarter Features

The LG C6 OLED arrives with the company’s latest webOS 26 platform, and at first glance, users who have owned an LG OLED in recent years will immediately feel at home. When using it I noticed that LG has not attempted to completely redesign the interface, and in many ways that was the right decision. The home screen, app organization, smart home controls and general navigation remain familiar, but the experience has been refined with a number of small improvements that make everyday use more convenient.

The interface remains one of the strongest parts of LG’s smart TV experience. Menus are clearly organized, streaming applications are easy to access, and moving between different sources feels natural rather than complicated. Even users who are buying their first premium OLED TV should have little trouble understanding where everything is located.

Most of the changes this year aren’t immediately visible. After spending some time with the TV, I realized that LG focused far more on improving what happens behind the scenes than redesigning the interface itself. Artificial intelligence now plays a larger role throughout the operating system, influencing picture processing, recommendations and personalization without constantly drawing attention to itself.

AI Picture and Sound Personalization

Artificial intelligence has become one of the most overused terms in the television industry. Almost every manufacturer now highlights AI features, but the actual usefulness varies dramatically between products.

With the LG C6 OLED, however, the company has made a more convincing effort to use AI in ways that can actually improve the experience. The new Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 3 does more than simply improve image quality behind the scenes. Instead of asking users to understand technical picture controls, LG simply asks which image looks better. After answering several comparisons, the TV builds a picture profile that reflects your personal preference.

I actually found this approach far more approachable than expecting the average buyer to adjust gamma curves or white balance manually. For enthusiasts who enjoy manually calibrating displays, this will not replace professional calibration. But for the vast majority of users who simply want a great-looking picture without spending hours adjusting menus, this approach is far more accessible.

The same philosophy extends to audio. The C6 includes AI-based sound processing modes designed to analyze the content being played and adjust the audio accordingly. In practice, I found the results depended heavily on the type of content. The AI Sound mode creates a larger and more spacious presentation than the physical speakers alone would suggest, but in some situations it slightly emphasizes mid-range frequencies, making dialogue clearer while occasionally sacrificing some naturalness.

After extended testing, I personally returned most often to the standard sound mode, which provided the best balance between dialogue, music and effects. That does not mean the AI mode is unsuccessful. In fact, viewers who often struggle to understand dialogue during movies or shows with heavy background effects may prefer it, because it gives voices more presence within the overall mix.

Privacy: The Growing Question Around Smart TVs

One area where the modern smart TV experience continues to become more complicated is privacy. Don’t get me wrong: LG is far from alone here. Samsung, Google TV, TCL, Hisense and virtually every major smart TV platform collect some level of user data. The industry has moved toward connected televisions that are not simply displays, but rather entertainment platforms that learn viewing habits, recommend content and integrate advertising.

However, during the initial setup process of the LG C6, it becomes clear just how much information today’s smart televisions can potentially collect. To access the full range of features, users are asked to agree to multiple privacy terms covering areas such as personalised recommendations, advertising preferences, voice assistant functionality, microphone data, viewing habits and other forms of personalization.

The individual pieces of information may appear harmless on their own, but when combined, they create a detailed picture of how a person uses their television: viewing history, installed applications, voice searches, content preferences and account information, are among the various data collected by LG.

For many users, the convenience will outweigh these concerns, since personalised recommendations are more useful when the TV understands viewing habits, and voice controls are more effective when the system has access to relevant data. Still, buyers should be aware that the modern smart TV is no longer simply a screen connected to a streaming box. It has become a connected computing device, and understanding the privacy settings is now part of owning one.

Built-in Advertising

One change that surprised me is that LG now includes built-in promotional content within the webOS interface. At first, I assumed I was seeing an advertisement from a streaming service or a television channel, however, it was actually integrated directly into the main home screen banner.

The good news is that LG does allow users to disable these promotional banners through the settings menu. The option exists, but it is not enabled by default, meaning users who prefer a cleaner interface will need to manually change the setting. I disabled the banners almost immediately, and once they were turned off they never became an issue again.

One of the first things I changed after setting up the TV was disabling LG’s promotional banners. Thankfully, the option is easy to find. On my review unit, I navigated to Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Home Promotion and turned the feature off. It only takes a few seconds, but it makes the home screen feel noticeably cleaner and more in line with what I’d expect from a premium OLED television. Menu names may vary slightly depending on your region or future webOS updates, but once the banners are disabled, the interface feels noticeably cleaner and much more appropriate for a premium television.

Disable built-in advertising

This is not unique to LG, as advertising-supported smart TV platforms have become increasingly common across the industry. Still, for a premium television positioned as a high-end product, some buyers may reasonably expect the interface they paid for to remain free of promotional content.

The Magic Remote Remains One of LG’s Best Ideas

LG’s Magic Remote continues to be one of the most distinctive parts of the company’s OLED experience.

While many television manufacturers have moved toward increasingly minimal remotes with fewer physical buttons, LG has maintained its motion-based pointer system, allowing users to move a cursor around the screen simply by pointing the remote.

The pointer still feels strange for the first few minutes, especially if you’ve never owned an LG TV before. But after a day or two, I found myself reaching for it instinctively because navigating long menus became noticeably faster.

LG C6 remote control

The remote itself is almost identical to the previous generation. It is smaller than LG’s older remotes, more comfortable to hold, and now charges through USB-C rather than relying solely on replaceable batteries. LG also continues to include dedicated shortcut buttons for popular streaming services, although the exact layout has changed slightly compared with previous generations.

One of the more interesting additions is the customizable button located near the upper-right corner of the remote, marked with a heart icon. Rather than assigning it to a single fixed function, LG allows users to customize both a short press and a long press to perform different actions. Although it is a minor update, in daily use it becomes surprisingly useful. For example, because LG still does not include a dedicated Source button for quickly switching HDMI inputs, so I configured the customizable button to open the HDMI input connected to my home theater receiver. After making that change, I rarely needed to navigate through additional menus simply to switch sources.

Personalised heart button

A Few Remote Limitations Remain

Despite the improvements, the Magic Remote is not perfect. The biggest omission remains the lack of backlighting. In a dark room, the small buttons can be difficult to identify quickly, and this is exactly where many people watch movies.

LG also still does not provide a traditional mute button in the same way many competitors do. Instead, users need to hold the volume-down button briefly before mute activates. I don’t consider this a minor complaint, since it’s one of those small usability details you notice almost every day.

Overall, however, the Magic Remote remains one of LG’s strongest differentiators. It may not appeal to everyone, but once you become accustomed to the pointer system, switching back to a conventional remote feels surprisingly slow.

Audio Performance: Better Than Its Slim Design Suggests

Although picture quality is the main reason most buyers choose an OLED TV, audio performance still matters, especially for viewers who don’t plan to add a soundbar immediately. On paper, the LG C6’s audio system looks almost unchanged from last year’s model. It uses a 2.2-channel speaker configuration with a total output of 40 watts and supports Dolby Atmos through virtual processing rather than dedicated upward-firing speakers.

I wasn’t expecting much from such a thin television, but after using it daily I came away pleasantly surprised. Dialogue remained consistently clear, overall volume was more than sufficient for a typical living room, and the TV created a noticeably wider soundstage than many ultra-thin televisions I’ve tested.

LG’s new AI Sound processing attempts to simulate a virtual 11.1.2-channel surround environment. In practice, it does make the presentation sound larger than the physical speakers would normally allow, but I also noticed that it sometimes emphasized the midrange frequencies a little too aggressively. Voices became easier to understand, particularly during action scenes, but they occasionally sounded less natural than they did in the standard sound mode. Because of that, I found myself returning to the Estándar sound profile most of the time. It delivered the most balanced presentation, with a natural blend of dialogue, music and effects.

That said, I can easily see why some users would prefer AI Sound. Anyone who struggles to hear dialogue over loud background effects or music may actually benefit from the additional vocal emphasis. Rather than one mode being objectively better than the other, LG is giving users two different listening experiences designed for different preferences.

DTS Audio Support: Still the Biggest Disappointment

One disappointment from last year’s model unfortunately remains unchanged. Like the C5 before it, the LG C6 still does not support DTS audio decoding through its built-in media player. That includes DTS, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS:X soundtracks.

I verified this using several Blu-ray Remux files from my own media library, and every DTS-only title behaved the same way: any video file containing only a DTS audio track played normally, but without sound, while the TV displayed a compatibility warning indicating that the audio format was not supported. For most buyers, this limitation will never become an issue. Streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+ and Prime Video primarily rely on Dolby audio formats, so everyday streaming works exactly as expected.

However, home theater enthusiasts with large local movie libraries should pay close attention. Many high-quality Blu-ray Remux files still include DTS-based soundtracks, and anyone planning to play those files directly through the TV’s internal media player may encounter silent playback unless an alternative Dolby audio track is also included. Users who require DTS support can still solve the problem by connecting an external media player or AV receiver capable of decoding DTS audio before passing the signal to the television.

While this won’t affect the average streaming viewer, I still believe DTS support should be included on a premium television in this price category, especially considering that many enthusiasts purchasing OLED displays also maintain high-quality local media collections.

DTS audio format not supported

Voice Control and Accessibility

LG continues to expand voice control capabilities on the C6, including support for voice commands and improved natural-language interaction. Users can search for content, adjust settings and perform basic commands without navigating through menus manually. For privacy-conscious users, LG includes a physical microphone switch on the television itself, allowing the microphone to be disabled completely when voice functionality is not needed.

Personally, I like this approach, balancing between convenience and control. Instead of forcing users to choose between smart features and privacy, LG gives them a clear hardware-based option. Accessibility features have also received attention, including built-in screen narration and additional assistance tools, however, during testing, I noticed that the voice narration experience was inconsistent. The English version worked well, but other language implementations may still need refinement to feel fully natural. This is an area where software updates could make a meaningful difference over time.

Google Cast, AirPlay and Smart Home Integration

The LG C6 OLED continues to offer broad compatibility with modern ecosystems. Built-in Google Cast support joins Apple AirPlay 2, allowing users to stream content directly from smartphones, tablets and computers without needing an external streaming device.

The television also supports Matter and LG’s ThinQ smart home platform, allowing it to act as a central control point for connected devices. I tested both Google Cast and AirPlay during the review, and both worked exactly as expected without requiring additional hardware, therefore found this flexibility as valuable. The C6 can function as part of a larger connected environment, and not just a display. That said, many buyers will still use the TV primarily for streaming, and in that role webOS remains fast, polished and easy to understand.

While webOS remains one of the better smart TV platforms available today, I still encountered occasional delays when opening deeper settings menus, particularly while streaming apps were running. On a flagship OLED, I expected a more responsive experience.

Over-the-Air TV Support

Although streaming dominates the North American market, many viewers still rely on free over-the-air broadcasts through an antenna. The LG C6 includes built-in broadcast support for DVB-T2, allowing users to connect an antenna directly to the television without requiring an external tuner.

During testing, reception was stable, and broadcast channels looked better than expected thanks to LG’s strong image processing. Naturally, the television cannot create detail that does not exist in the original signal, but good processing can significantly improve the perceived quality of lower-resolution content. This is one of the areas where LG’s Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 3 demonstrates its value.

LG C6 OLED Picture Quality Review: Where the C6 Truly Pulls Ahead

If you asked me to name the single biggest reason to buy the LG C6 OLED, my answer wouldn’t be its gaming features, AI capabilities or smart TV platform. It would be the picture quality.

After several weeks of watching everything from heavily compressed TV broadcasts to high-bitrate 4K HDR Remux movies, I repeatedly found myself coming back to the same conclusion: the C6 simply produces an image that feels more natural than almost any television I’ve tested. What impressed me wasn’t a single “wow” moment. It was the fact that, no matter what I watched over the following weeks, I never found myself thinking about the TV. I was simply watching the content. To me, that’s usually the best compliment I can give any display.

Of course, much of that comes from OLED technology itself. Unlike LCD-based televisions that depend on thousands of backlight zones, every individual pixel on the C6 generates its own light. When a scene calls for black, the pixel simply turns itself off. There is no light leakage, blooming or compromise.

The C6 continues to use LG’s WRGB OLED panel architecture, where every pixel combines red, green and blue sub-pixels with an additional white sub-pixel that helps increase brightness without sacrificing color accuracy. In practice, it is one of the reasons the C6 can produce both outstanding HDR highlights and the deep blacks that continue to define OLED technology.

Perfect Blacks and Exceptional Contrast

The first thing I noticed was how convincing dark scenes looked. After years of reviewing LCD and Mini-LED televisions, I still find OLED’s ability to produce absolute black immediately noticeable whenever a movie cuts to a dark scene. When a scene contains a bright object surrounded by darkness, such as a candle in a dark room, stars against a night sky, or reflections of light on water, the television creates an impressive sense of depth because the bright areas remain intense while the surrounding pixels can disappear completely. This is where OLED maintains its biggest advantage over Mini-LED displays.

Even the most advanced Mini-LED televisions rely on backlight zones. When a bright object appears next to a dark area, the TV must decide how much light to allow through each zone. This can create blooming, where unwanted light spreads around bright objects. The C6 simply does not have that limitation, since a pixel showing black is not trying to block light. It is producing no light at all.

Looking Inside OLED: Pixel-Level Testing

To demonstrate how OLED technology works at the pixel level, I used a handheld digital microscope capable of magnification up to 1,600x. The goal was not simply to create an impressive close-up image, but to show the fundamental difference between OLED and traditional display technologies.

In the first demonstration, I examined a 21:9 movie scene displayed on the C6’s 16:9 panel. The areas outside the movie frame were completely black, because the television was able to turn off those pixels entirely. This is something that remains difficult for many edge-lit LED televisions, where the backlight source is positioned behind or along the edges of the screen and cannot always eliminate light leakage in dark areas. The result is a perfect demonstration of OLED’s biggest advantage: complete control at the individual pixel level. For me, this was probably the clearest visual demonstration of the fundamental difference between OLED and any display technology that still relies on a separate backlight.

<iframe title="LG C6 pixel review x300. The difference is immediately visible, since the C6 can transition from complete darkness to maximum brightness almost instantly because each pixel operates independently. That speed is one of the reasons OLED continues to deliver such a unique viewing experience.

<iframe title="LG C6 pixel review x1600. Increasingly, the image processor is what separates good TVs from truly exceptional ones. Last year, I described the Alpha 11 processor inside the LG C5 as the best image processor I had tested. I honestly wasn’t expecting a dramatic leap this year, but after spending several weeks with the C6, I came away convinced that LG has managed to improve it even further.

The new Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 3 doesn’t dramatically change how the television looks at first glance. Some 1080p broadcast channels actually looked better than I expected. They certainly didn’t resemble native 4K, but LG’s processing extracted every bit of detail available from the source without making the image look artificially sharpened. Lower-quality content is handled more intelligently, and tasks such as quickly jumping forward and backward through large video files, that often expose weaknesses in built-in TV media players, were performed instantly, without the delays or hesitation which I have experienced on competing televisions. For some, this may sound like a small detail, but for enthusiasts like me with large local media libraries, it makes a significant difference.

What surprised me most wasn’t that the C6 could play these extremely demanding files, since many premium TVs can do that today. It’s how quickly it responded when I repeatedly skipped forward and backward through very large video files. On several competing televisions I’ve reviewed, this is exactly where built-in media players begin to hesitate. The C6 simply didn’t.

Upscaling and Motion Processing

One of the biggest challenges for any premium 4K television is dealing with content that is not native 4K. Streaming services still provide a mixture of resolutions and compression levels, while many broadcast channels continue to rely on lower-resolution signals. The LG C6 handles these sources exceptionally well.

During testing, 1080p over-the-air broadcasts looked cleaner and more detailed than expected. Of course, no processor can create information that was never captured in the original source, but good processing can improve sharpness, reduce artifacts and make lower-quality content more enjoyable. Some broadcast channels genuinely looked better than I expected. They certainly weren’t transformed into native 4K, but the image looked cleaner without crossing the line into artificial sharpening. That’s a difficult balance to achieve, and the C6 handled it remarkably well.

Motion handling consistently impressed me. Fast camera movements, sports broadcasts and action sequences maintained clarity without obvious blur or artificial processing. The Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 3 consistently delivered a natural presentation rather than an over-processed image.

HDR Performance: Where OLED Still Shines

HDR content remains one of the strongest demonstrations of what OLED can achieve. Scenes containing sunlight reflecting from water, explosions in dark environments or individual light sources against a black background, look particularly impressive on the C6. These extremely bright highlights almost always challenge TVs.

One thing I was reminded of during this review is that HDR is about controlling the relationship between the brightest and darkest parts of the image, and not about making the whole screen brighter. Plenty of televisions can produce impressive peak brightness numbers in a laboratory, but far fewer can create convincing depth during real movies. That’s exactly where the C6 excels.

The reason is simple: HDR is mainly is about controlling the relationship between the brightest and darkest parts of an image, and not only about making the entire screen brighter. In my experience, this is exactly where OLED excels. Some televisions measure impressive peak brightness in laboratory tests yet still fail to create a convincing HDR experience. The LG C6 reminded me once again that HDR isn’t simply about brightness. It’s about contrast. The ability to place an intensely bright highlight directly beside absolute black is what creates the illusion of depth, and that’s exactly where OLED continues to outperform competing display technologies.

Real-World Viewing Experience: Movies, Sports and Everyday Content

Specifications can explain what a television is capable of, but the real test begins when you stop looking at charts and simply watch content. After several weeks with the LG C6 OLED, my biggest impression is how consistently impressive the image remains across different types of viewing.

Premium 4K HDR movies are obviously where this television feels most at home, but what impressed me was how well it handled everyday content as well. A good OLED display should not only look spectacular with carefully mastered cinematic content. It should also make regular television broadcasts, streaming shows and older content enjoyable.

The C6 succeeds because the Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 3 does not simply sharpen everything aggressively. Instead, it attempts to preserve the original look of the content while improving clarity, reducing artifacts and maintaining natural motion.

Testing HDR Content

To evaluate HDR performance, I tested the LG C6 OLED with several demanding scenes designed to challenge brightness, contrast and motion processing. Rather than relying on synthetic test patterns alone, I deliberately chose real-world scenes that I know expose weaknesses in television processing. Fast action, difficult HDR lighting, subtle facial details and concert footage all tend to reveal how well a television handles contrast, motion and shadow detail.

Comencé con Mortal Kombat II because it’s one of my favorite HDR torture tests. This film is filled with fast action sequences, intense lighting effects and scenes combining bright highlights with dark environments. The C6 handled rapid movement extremely well, maintaining detail during action scenes while preserving the deep blacks that give OLED its distinctive appearance.

<iframe title="Mortal Kombat II 4K | Johnny Cage vs Kitana & Sonya vs Sindel | Movie Clip | Warner Bros. Rather than explosive action, the film relies heavily on facial details, subtle lighting and darker scenes where small changes in contrast become immediately noticeable. Here again, the C6 delivered excellent results, maintaining sharp facial details and accurate skin tones without making the image look artificially enhanced.

I wrapped up with Michael, a film with demanding concert-style scenes featuring dark environments combined with extremely bright stage lighting. This type of content is particularly challenging because the display must simultaneously handle intense highlights and large dark areas. The C6 performed exceptionally well, preserving detail without losing the dramatic impact of the lighting.

Overall, the LG C6 OLED consistently delivered the type of image quality that makes OLED technology so appealing: excellent contrast, accurate colors and a sense of depth that is difficult to replicate with other display technologies.

Viewing Angles: Still One of OLED’s Biggest Advantages

One of the areas where OLED continues to maintain a significant advantage over traditional LED and Mini-LED televisions is viewing angles. When watching from the side, colors remain stable and the image does not experience the same level of degradation that many LCD-based displays suffer from. This matters more than many people realize, since in a typical living room not every viewer sits directly in front of the television. Some people watch from a side chair, a dining area or another part of the room. With the LG C6, the viewing experience remains consistent even from wider angles.

Reflection Handling: The Other Side of OLED

OLED however, has another characteristic that buyers should understand. While viewing angles are excellent, dark areas of the screen can behave almost like a mirror when reflecting external light.

This is especially noticeable when the television is turned off, but it can also appear during dark movie scenes. In my own setup, with a large south-facing glass window nearby, reflections of the outdoor environment were clearly visible during darker scenes.

This does not mean the C6 cannot be used in a bright room. In fact, modern LG OLED televisions are significantly brighter than older generations and can handle typical living room conditions much better than early OLED models, but placement still matters. If the television is positioned directly opposite a large window or strong light source, the reflective nature of the panel may become noticeable. For users who can control their lighting environment, this is far less of an issue.

Personally, I don’t consider reflections a deal-breaker, yet I would accept a slightly more reflective screen than sacrifice the perfect contrast that OLED delivers. Still, buyers with large windows directly opposite their seating position should take room placement into account before purchasing.

The screen can behave almost like a mirror when reflecting external light

OLED Burn-In: What Buyers Should Know

Burn-in remains one of the most discussed concerns surrounding OLED televisions, but the situation today is very different from the early years of OLED technology. LG has significantly improved its panel protection systems, and permanent image retention has become far less common than it once was. The LG C6 includes several protective technologies, including pixel cleaning cycles, pixel shifting and automatic brightness adjustments designed to reduce stress on static areas.

However, OLED pixels are still based on organic materials, meaning the theoretical risk has not completely disappeared. Users who spend many hours watching channels with permanent logos, news tickers or static graphics, for many hours every day, should understand that this type of usage creates a higher long-term risk. Although for most viewers watching a mix of movies, streaming services, sports and regular television, this should not be a major concern, but buyers who intend to use the television as a commercial display, a constant news screen or a dedicated gaming monitor with static elements for many hours daily should consider their usage pattern carefully.

Personally, I don’t think burn-in should discourage most buyers from choosing OLED in 2026. LG’s protection systems have become remarkably sophisticated, and for typical mixed usage, the vast majority of owners are unlikely to encounter permanent image retention.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that burn-in is only one aspect of long-term OLED ownership. Panel lifespan is influenced by several factors beyond permanent image retention, including cumulative brightness usage, heat, and the natural aging of organic materials over time. I recently published a separate in-depth article explaining why modern OLED TVs may not always last as long as many buyers expect, and what owners can realistically do to maximize panel longevity. If long-term durability is one of your biggest concerns, it’s worth reading alongside this review.

Nevertheless, for me OLED still delivers the most beautiful image quality currently available in a consumer television. Understanding its limitations is simply part of making an informed purchase.

Should You Upgrade From the LG C5 OLED to the C6?

This is probably the most important question for existing LG OLED owners. My short answer is that if I already owned a C5, I personally wouldn’t rush to replace it. The LG C5 was already an excellent television, and the improvement in everyday viewing will not feel like a dramatic generational leap. But a with three, four or five year old TV, however, the upgrade would feel far more dramatic.

The C6 is not a complete redesign. Instead, LG has refined an already successful formula. The improvements which are meaningful include the new Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 3, better AI-based image processing, improved motion handling, VRR support increased up to 165Hz and new webOS 26 platform.

But the fundamental strengths remain the same: OLED contrast, excellent colors, gaming capabilities and premium design. For someone upgrading from an older OLED or a traditional LED television, the difference will feel much more significant.

LG C6 OLED Review: Final Verdict

After living with the LG C6 OLED for several weeks as my primary television, I came away with a very clear impression: this isn’t a revolutionary OLED, and LG never intended it to be. Instead, the company focused on refining a television that was already among the best in its class. In many ways, that makes the C6 a more mature product rather than simply a newer one. The improvements are subtle individually, but together they create a noticeably more polished experience.

This is not the kind of upgrade that will make an LG C5 owner immediately feel that their television has become outdated, since the previous generation was already an excellent OLED display, and the fundamental viewing experience remains very similar. However, the improvements LG introduced this year are meaningful. The new Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen 3 is the standout upgrade. It improves the way the television handles motion, lower-resolution content, demanding high-bitrate video files and overall image processing. During my testing, it delivered the best video processing performance I have personally experienced from an LG OLED television.

The panel itself continues to deliver everything buyers expect from OLED technology with perfect blacks, exceptional contrast, accurate colors and wide viewing angles. This cinematic HDR experience remains difficult for competing technologies to reproduce. For movie enthusiasts, the C6 creates the kind of depth and realism that makes high-quality HDR content genuinely impressive. Bright highlights stand out naturally against completely dark backgrounds, while shadow detail remains visible without the gray haze that can appear on many LCD-based displays.

The LG C6 OLED Is Not Perfect

Despite its strengths, the LG C6 is not without compromises. The continued lack of DTS audio support remains disappointing, especially for home theater enthusiasts who maintain large local movie libraries with DTS-based soundtracks. Users who primarily watch Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and other mainstream streaming services are unlikely to notice this limitation, but owners with extensive local media collections should be aware of it.

Privacy is another area worth considering. Like almost every modern smart TV platform, LG collects user data to support recommendations, personalization and connected services. However, the number of permissions presented during setup highlights a broader industry trend: today’s televisions are becoming increasingly connected computers rather than simple displays.

The webOS 26 interface itself remains excellent, but the occasional delay when opening deeper settings menus shows that there is still room for improvement in software responsiveness. None of these issues change the core experience of watching content on the C6, but they are important considerations for buyers spending premium-level money.

Who Should Buy the LG C6 OLED?

The LG C6 OLED is an excellent choice for viewers who prioritize:

Premium movie and streaming quality.

HDR performance.

Gaming features.

Accurate colors and deep contrast.

A polished smart TV experience.

A television that performs exceptionally well in a wide variety of content types.

Gamers will appreciate the four HDMI 2.1 ports, high refresh rate support, VRR compatibility and low-latency features. Movie enthusiasts will appreciate the OLED contrast, excellent processing and cinematic presentation. Users upgrading from older LED or entry-level televisions will likely notice a dramatic improvement.

Who Might Want to Consider Other Options?

The C6 may not be the ideal choice for everyone, as users who watch the same static channels for many hours every day, operate a display in a very bright room with direct reflections, or require DTS support through the built-in media player should consider these limitations before purchasing. Likewise, current owners of the LG C5 OLED may find that the upgrade is difficult to justify unless they specifically want the new processor, AI improvements or gaming enhancements.

Final Rating: A Refined OLED Champion

The LG C6 OLED represents exactly what a mature premium television should be: not a complete reinvention, but a careful refinement of an already excellent product. LG did not need to change everything but instead it improved the elements that have the greatest impact on everyday viewing.

After weeks of daily use, I found myself looking for reasons to criticize the C6 more harshly, simply because that’s part of reviewing any premium television. There are certainly compromises: DTS support is still missing, reflections can be noticeable in the wrong room, and webOS occasionally feels slower than the hardware deserves. Yet every time I sat down to actually watch a movie, those complaints quickly faded into the background.

That’s ultimately what I think defines the LG C6 OLED. It isn’t perfect, but it consistently delivers an image that makes you forget you’re evaluating a television and simply enjoy what you’re watching.
