Our BISSELL CrossWave OmniForce Edge Pro 4000N review reveals whether this wet dry vacuum can truly replace your mop.
There are certain moments that perfectly explain why wet-dry vacuum cleaners have become one of the hottest home appliance categories in recent years. For me, those moments happen at least twice a day.
I have two German Shepherds that seem to shed endlessly, family and friends constantly tracking dirt in from the backyard, and kids who somehow manage to spill food, drinks, and just about everything else imaginable. Until recently, my cleaning routine involved a traditional vacuum, a mop, and a bucket.
But the speed at which cordless stick vacuums, robot vacuums, and hybrid floor cleaners are entering our homes is staggering. The latest example is the BISSELL CrossWave OmniForce Edge Pro 4000N, a machine that promises to vacuum and mop your floors simultaneously.
That sounds great in theory. But does it actually deliver? After extensive real-world testing, here’s my full review.
A Quick History Lesson
Before diving into performance, it’s worth taking a step back. BISSELL was one of the companies that helped popularize this category when it introduced the original BISSELL CrossWave back in 2016. At the time, combining vacuuming and mopping into a single upright household appliance felt genuinely innovative. Early adopters often purchased it through platforms like Amazon before the category exploded into what it is today.
Fast forward to now, and the market is flooded with competitors from brands like Dyson, Tineco, Roborock, and SharkNinja. But BISSELL deserves credit for helping define the category early. The CrossWave OmniForce Edge Pro 4000N feels like a far more refined version of that original vision.
Setup Is Refreshingly Simple
Right out of the box, this feels like a premium product. Setup takes just minutes: attach the handle, fill the clean water tank, add cleaning solution and start cleaning.
Inside the box, BISSELL includes a cleaning solution, self-cleaning formula (both around 250ml each), cleaning brush, filter, extra roller brush and additional replacement filter. That extra roller and filter are especially useful for heavy users.

Vacuuming and Mopping at the Same Time Actually Works
The CrossWave OmniForce Edge Pro is designed to vacuum and wash floors simultaneously. While cleaning, it sprays water mixed with cleaning solution onto your floor, scrubs with a rotating brush roll, and simultaneously sucks up dirty water, debris, and dust into a separate tank.
On paper, that sounds impressive, so I immediately decided to stress-test it. On day one, I intentionally gave it a brutal challenge of spilled milk, cereal, dog food, pet hair and general dirt. Basically this is a very realistic day in a household with pets and kids.
The results were impressive, since in one or two passes, most of the mess disappeared completely. The ability to vacuum liquids and solids simultaneously creates a noticeably cleaner result than using a traditional vacuum alone.

It Handles Pet Hair Surprisingly Well
This was one of the biggest surprises. German Shepherds leave behind an absurd amount of hair, and many traditional vacuums struggle, especially when hair gets wet or sticks to hard flooring. The CrossWave handled it extremely well, because it washes while vacuuming, pet hair gets collected much more efficiently than with standard dry vacuums. For pet owners, this is where the product truly shines.
Dry Vacuum Mode Adds Flexibility
The unit can also operate in dry-only mode. Combined with Turbo mode, it can clean carpets surprisingly well without forcing you to switch devices. That may sound like a small feature, but in everyday use it saves time and eliminates the need to grab another vacuum for rugs and carpets. Not every competitor offers that flexibility.

Controls Are Simple and Intuitive
I was happy to find that everything happens directly from the handle. You get four buttons that control power, water flow, vacuum power levels and self-cleaning mode. There’s no unnecessary complexity here.
That simplicity becomes especially helpful when switching between light daily cleaning and heavier messes.
The Zero Gap Brush Is Genuinely Useful
One of the smartest design choices is BISSELL’s Zero Gap edge cleaning technology. The brush is open on one side, allowing it to clean extremely close to baseboards and walls without leaving behind dirty strips. That solves a common frustration with many competing wet vacuums. And in real-world use, I found that it actually works.
Flexible Cleaning Under Furniture
The vacuum can recline nearly flat to the floor, which makes it easier to clean under couches, beds, and furniture without constantly bending over. While it won’t fully replace deep under-furniture cleaning tools, but it helps significantly.

Water Tanks Are Well Designed
Like most wet vacuums, the system separates clean and dirty water. The clean water tank volume is 660ml, and the dirty water tank is 440ml. There’s also internal separation between solid debris and liquid waste, and that makes emptying the dirty tank far less unpleasant, especially when cleaning food spills mixed with hair.
Self-Cleaning Is Helpful But Not Perfect
The self-cleaning system works with a single button press. It removes hair and debris from the brush roll automatically, however, there’s one major downside: There’s no active drying system.
That means after self-cleaning, you still need to remove the roller and let it air dry manually. I found it feels like a missing premium feature compared to some newer competitors.
It Struggles With Larger Debris
The front profile is designed to improve dry vacuum suction on carpets, and that works well. But it also makes it harder to naturally suck up larger solid debris like bigger food pieces. In those situations, I occasionally needed an extra pass, or even a quick nudge with my foot. It’s not a dealbreaker, but worth noting.
Battery Life and Daily Use
Battery life is rated at up to 30 minutes per charge and such charging happens wirelessly through the docking station. During testing, the vacuum felt stable and relatively easy to maneuver. At 3.9kg (8.6 pounds), it isn’t lightweight, but that’s expected considering the water tanks.
After a few days, handling becomes second nature, and there’s also a display that shows battery status and cleaning modes. However, there’s no front LED light, a feature that’s becoming increasingly common in this category.
Who Should Buy It?
If you have pets, especially heavy-shedding dogs like I have, this is one of the most useful cleaning appliances you can buy. If you have kids constantly creating messes, it’s also incredibly convenient.
Instead of waiting for weekend deep cleaning sessions, you can quickly clean everyday messes in minutes. That said, if you want a completely maintenance-free cleaning experience, this isn’t it, because you still need to empty tanks, clean components, and dry the brush. That’s simply part of owning a wet vacuum.
Final Verdict
The BISSELL CrossWave OmniForce Edge Pro 4000N successfully delivers on its biggest promise: Making vacuuming and mopping faster, easier, and more convenient. It’s not perfect but its strengths are especially noticeable in homes with pets, children, and constant daily messes.
Will it completely replace your traditional vacuum and mop? Not entirely, but it dramatically reduces how often you need both, and that alone makes it a compelling upgrade. Because at the end of the day, when everyone walks back into the house, they want clean floors. And that may be the best metric of all.
