A high-power portable speaker built for backyard BBQs, pool parties, and outdoor celebrations: loud, bold, and unapologetically built for atmosphere.
There’s a good reason more and more portable Bluetooth speakers and party systems are launched. Every occation is a reason for celebration, whether an inpendence Day, or birthday celebrations.
This is the time of year when many people head outdoors for beach picnics, backyard gatherings with friends, pool parties, or simply relaxed hangouts in the park. All of these situations have in common is one thing: music.
A good speaker can instantly transform a half-improvised vibe into a real celebration, one that brings people together, sparks smiles, and sometimes even leads to spontaneous karaoke moments at a backyard BBQ or a late-night pool party singalong.
And in a year that daily life is influenced also by complex security realities and general tension, there’s also another layer: the need to unwind, come together, and create small moments of joy. Music plays a meaningful role here, helping people briefly set aside the heaviness and bring back a sense of celebration.
So now, more than ever, it’s worth taking a closer look at which speakers actually deliver that experience, not just on paper. Let’s begin.
The Bluetooth Speaker Market
The portable Bluetooth speaker market has changed significantly in recent years. If in the past we were satisfied with small, compact speakers that simply provided background music, today more and more consumers are looking for larger Bluetooth speakers, ones that deliver real presence.
This is a fast-growing category, with speakers trying to bridge the gap between portability and power that can almost rival a home audio system.
The added value is clear: deeper sound with noticeable bass, long battery life that allows hours of unplugged use, and a physical presence that is both visual and acoustic.
These are no longer just “speakers”, but the center of experience, whether it’s a party, a backyard hangout, or outdoor use.
On the other hand, the bigger the speaker gets, the bigger the question becomes: does it truly deliver sound quality that matches its size, or is it just impressive on paper?
That’s exactly where the JLab Epic Party enters the picture, aiming to deliver an all-in-one party solution.
Design: Big and Bold
At first glance, it’s immediately clear the Epic Party isn’t trying to be subtle.
This is a very large speaker, especially within its category, almost twice the size of many familiar portable models. It’s built around a clear concept: “Take me anywhere, I’ll bring the party.”
It has a strong presence that immediately draws attention when placed on a table or the ground.
And speaking of placement, this is a speaker weighing around 11 lbs (5 kg), standing about 16.5 inches (42 cm) tall, with a built-in carrying handle, six physical buttons, and a dedicated volume dial.
It includes a metal carry handle that feels solid and premium, making it relatively easy to transport. However, this is also where the design duality shows: on one hand there’s a premium feel, but on the other, some of the plastic elements still feel closer to a mainstream consumer product.

The LED lighting system is an integral part of the design and adds significantly to the party atmosphere. These are LED strips embedded around the top crown of the speaker, reinforcing its party identity and controlled via the app. This is more of an ambiance feature than something that directly improves audio quality.
Structurally, the speaker includes a downward-firing subwoofer and four full-range drivers designed to create 360-degree sound dispersion. It looks impressive, but also clearly suggests that instead of traditional stereo imaging, you’re getting an immersive sound field.

Unlike many competing speakers, it is designed to project sound in all directions, reinforcing its role as a centerpiece placed in the middle of the action, not aimed at a single listening direction.
Specifications: Powerful on Paper
As mentioned, the speaker includes a large downward-firing subwoofer designed to deliver deep bass and in my testing, it does exactly that.
It features four 2.5-inch full-range drivers named Full Frequency Horns, covering a wide frequency range of 40 Hz to 20 kHz, allowing relatively full-spectrum audio, from deep bass to high treble.
Output power is rated at approximately 100W RMS, delivering strong volume capability.
It supports Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC and AAC codecs, along with A2DP and AVRCP profiles. It also includes AUX input, a 1/4-inch input for microphones or musical instruments, and USB-C two-way charging, including power-out functionality for charging other devices.

It carries an IP56 rating, making it resistant to dust and water splashes, therefore well suited for outdoor environments.
Battery and Charging
The battery is large at 9,000 mAh, delivering up to 16 hours of playback with LED lighting or around 14 hours with RGB lighting active.
Charging takes approximately 5 hours, which is relatively efficient given the battery size, and it supports 30W PD fast charging.
To prevent unnecessary battery drain, it includes an auto power-off function, which can also be disabled via the app.
App Control
The JLab app provides exactly the added value it is intended for: EQ control with JLab Signature, Bass Boost, and Balanced modes, along with six lighting modes and firmware updates.
It’s important to note that the default JLab Signature EQ setting actually delivers the best overall performance in real-world use. Other modes like Bass Boost or Balanced felt less convincing in comparison.

Listening Experience: Powerful Output
I tested the Epic Party during a pool party on one of the recent heatwave days, exactly the kind of environment it was designed for.
From the very first moment, the speaker delivered impressive power. The bass is present, deep, and punchy, especially with modern hip-hop tracks, where it feels completely at home. Beat-heavy songs gain a physical presence that you can actually feel.
However, this is also where its limits begin to show. The bass, while powerful, is not always tightly controlled. On hard surfaces like tables, vibrations can become noticeable. I found that placing a soft pad or foam underneath significantly improved stability. In general, it performs better when placed directly on the ground.
With pop music, the experience is mixed. On one hand, tracks sound large and full. On the other, there is sometimes a lack of clarity in finer vocal details.
With rock music, especially electric guitars that should sound sharp and defined, the presentation can feel slightly less precise. The energy is there, but accuracy takes a step back.
That said, in a real party environment with people talking, laughing, and moving around, these nuances are far less noticeable. The speaker does exactly what it’s supposed to: elevate the atmosphere.
The 360-degree sound dispersion works extremely well for coverage. Everyone around the pool area could hear clearly from all directions. Of course, this comes at the expense of true stereo separation, but that’s where the LabSync feature comes in, allowing you to connect another speaker, or even up to 100 units simultaneously.
Final Thoughts
The JLab Epic Party has a very clear mission: deliver power, presence, and a true party atmosphere, especially during outdoor gatherings, beach days, park meetups, backyard BBQs, and pool parties.
It excels in areas where some competitors fall short: high output volume, wide 360-degree sound coverage, solid battery life, and strong outdoor durability. In a real-world party scenario, it simply gets the job done and elevates the energy effortlessly.
However, it is not aimed at audiophiles. The sound is powerful but not always precise, the bass can dominate and requires proper placement, and the build quality feels somewhat mixed between premium and mainstream.
In the end, if you’re looking for a speaker that creates energy, presence, and a strong outdoor party vibe, this is a very relevant and capable option.
