POCO F8 Pro Review: When Flagship Performance Meets Smart Pricing

In recent years, the smartphone market seems to have hit its performance ceiling. Most devices look similar on the outside and offer impressive specs on paper, but in reality, they often struggle to justify prices that climb toward the premium flagship range. In this context, POCO, a brand under Xiaomi, continues to follow a clear strategy: deliver a premium-like user experience without demanding the high price typical of top-tier flagships.

The POCO F8 Pro is the latest example of this approach. Officially positioned in the upper mid-range segment, it crosses into flagship territory in design, performance, and camera capabilities. I requested a unit for review to see whether it really bridges the gap or is just another ambitious attempt with compromises we haven’t fully accounted for.

Where POCO Stands Today

POCO started as a “rebel” brand, willing to make sacrifices to deliver high processing power at a lower price. Over the years, it evolved, offering smartphones each year that fit the demanding daily lives of power users.

The F8 Pro continues this legacy but adds features not found in previous models. It’s no longer just about a fast processor, this is a complete package, including a premium display, large battery, advanced cooling, serious camera capabilities, and a design that feels thoughtfully crafted. This device is for users who choose wisely, not those willing to compromise.

What’s in the Box

Opening a POCO box is a delight. Unlike many competitors, the essentials are included: a hard back cover and a 100W fast charger (note: review units sometimes exclude the charger). Everything needed for a premium experience is right in the package.

Design

The first thing you notice when picking up the POCO F8 Pro is how carefully it’s crafted. The back panel blends matte and glossy finishes. Its metal frame provides rigidity, while the transition from front to back is smooth. According to the manufacturer, the back is made from a single 2mm-thick glass block, precision-etched with CNC, and goes through three polishing stages and 41 individual processes.

This layering allows the camera module to sit seamlessly in the rear panel. It also achieves POCO’s first matte/gloss effect on processed glass, giving the back and frame a premium feel.

The front is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, surrounded by an aluminum frame, much like the iPhone 17 and Samsung Galaxy S25. Despite a large 6.59-inch display, the device weighs just 200g, evenly distributed, making it comfortable for extended use. Rounded corners recall iPhone designs, avoiding sharp edges even when using the phone one-handed.

Importantly, the F8 Pro is IP68-rated, offering peace of mind against dust and water exposure: up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. This is a standout feature at this price point.

Display

A quick glance at the F8 Pro shows why its display is among its most impressive features. It uses a Hyper AMOLED panel with 68 billion colors, a 2K resolution of 1156 × 2510 pixels, and supports 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and 2000 nits peak brightness. The result: sharp, vibrant visuals and smooth motion, whether scrolling social apps, watching videos, or playing mobile games.

The screen is bright enough for direct sunlight and flat enough to apply screen protectors easily. Power efficiency has also improved, contributing to longer battery life.

Operating System & User Experience

The F8 Pro runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3, a mature, fast, and stable system. App transitions are smooth, response times short, and the OS offers extensive customization options.

It supports eSIM alongside a physical SIM, allowing dual SIM usage simultaneously, a boon for travelers or users managing multiple lines.

Connectivity

Connectivity is robust: Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, and full 5G support, keeping the device future-proof.

Performance

Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (3nm) with an Adreno 730 GPU, the same platform found in the Samsung Galaxy S25. Performance is consistently high, and daily usage feels seamless, apps open instantly, and multitasking is smooth. Even demanding mobile games run fluidly.

The F8 Pro’s cooling system, IceLoop 3D, keeps temperatures in check, preventing throttling during heavy use. The phone also features 12GB RAM and 512GB UFS 4.1 storage, ensuring fast and efficient operation.

I tested the performance of the F8 Pro using GeekBench 6, and the results indicate that in terms of data processing, it is on par with Samsung’s Galaxy S25. These are very strong results, as shown below.

The results were consistent in the GPU tests as well, so this is not a coincidence. It’s worth noting that these results are crucial for video processing, especially when watching clips or playing resource-intensive games.

Battery & Charging

The 6,210 mAh battery easily lasts a full day, often more. The box includes a 100W fast charger, significantly faster than Apple and Samsung’s 45W chargers (which are rarely included). According to POCO, it can charge from 0% to 100% in under 40 minutes and supports 22.5W reverse charging.

Camera

The F8 Pro’s camera system has made a significant leap compared to the previous generation. For the first time in the Pro series, POCO integrates a dedicated 50MP telephoto camera with 2.5x optical zoom, enabling natural portrait shots and high-quality close-ups. The main camera, also 50MP, features a Light Fusion 800 sensor and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), delivering excellent results in daylight and challenging lighting conditions.

Both of these cameras also include PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), a fast and precise autofocus technology that uses dedicated sensors to split incoming light into two images, compare them, and instantly calculate the subject distance for accurate focus. This allows capturing moving subjects quickly without blur. The third camera is 8MP in ultra-wide format without image stabilization.

The software capabilities complement the hardware: image processing is intelligent, and video recording is of high quality.
In my experience, the result is high-quality photography with advanced image processing support. The video supports 8K recording at 30fps with HDR10 Plus and Dolby Vision.

The upgraded selfie camera is 20MP, capable of 1080p recording at 30 or 60fps, and also supports HDR.

Audio

The stereo speakers are tuned by BOSE, offering powerful, clear sound. There’s no 3.5mm jack, but USB-C audio or wireless headphones provide excellent quality.

Summary

The POCO F8 Pro challenges more expensive competitors without trying to be the absolute best in every category. It delivers a smart balance of performance, design, photography, and user experience at a price far below top-tier flagships.

For anyone seeking a premium-feeling device that performs exceptionally without the flagship price tag, the F8 Pro is a very serious contender.
